0 : 1983-1988 : we can write off the first five years as "childhood"
1 : 1989-2000 : pre-university : a gruelling set of campaigns, mainly punctuated by boredom
2 : 2001-2012 : pre-sabbatical : the period of greatest study
3 : 2013-2024 : mid-career : not much learnt, just a lot of CV stuffing ... not even the kind of stuffing that most people care about
4 : I am looking forward to research, though I am not sure I will afford it
