Yawn 80

20Dec

I can only hold on to a bar for a coupla minutes. I should aim for 20. Time to start measuring.

Washed, cleaned bathroom, groomed. Back to work.

Caffeine probably results in reduced reflection, resulting in a need for active countermeasures following ingestion. So, enforced reflection needs to increase, proportionate with caffeine ingestion.

Today involves a lot of didacticism on syntax : hiring contracts, and data query specifications.

TIL :

1. in order to move fast in a highly regulated HR environment, all HR staff should be hired from legal backgrounds, or at least have the capability to read laws and write contracts.

2. pseudocode can have a formal definition : a 1-to-1 isomorphism with code, which is readable by a natural language reader; now we can test coders for pseudocode skill levels

1mtkiara really needs to lose the plastic cladding before they lose anymore tenants

Still drifty on the Kerinchi Link. Probably need to deflate rear-end down to 29psi because the backseats are out.

Compiling curl on a 2010 MBP to test cloud transcription services ... what a bottleneck ...

Stupidly busy week because ai make stupid choices. Mostly high RAM context switching.

M4 is as well paced as M1. Let's just hope they don't make two stupid sequels. Of course they will ..

Noon.

I have a mantra that is useful at this part of the day.

Enforced shower.

Enforced feeding.

Enforced work.

Took 83 minutes to figure out how to file claims for $169. Nice, but not nice.

Fuck my life. Yesterday was a stupid day and it's about to be followed by another long and stupid day.

Leaving price to the end of a sale negotiation is a waste of a time for price-sensitive customers. But this is exactly what most hiring managers do.

I need to try exercising more in order to reduce the hours of sleep required to recover to a specific level of health.

Cool people basically exist to be ridiculed - their identity as distinctive superiors is completely vulnerable to the notion of intentional class inversion.

Mostly done orienting a new staff. Being reminded to increase pulse variance, I slip back into the practice of deep enforced exhalations, to stimulate the parasympathetic NS. Probably been way too hot on sympathetic NS for a coupla weeks or more. Maybe the whole last year. Or five.

[redacted] I don't know. So I'll just try to find out. As usual.

8 jan

Really. Perhaps at this point the only thing to increase PSNS stimulation rate (to compensate for caffeine use) is to either drink or exercise more, so exercise is it, again.

Bit late to the office, but back in the chair. 🚀

Cost of parking : 7.00

Cost to obtain currency for payment. : 2.70

Cost of parking after obtaining currency : 9.00

Next focus of time is hiring an IT manager.

Found a good candidate in the pile. Might reshuffle team.

Enforced run time. About 75 minutes done.

Enforced feeding next.

Interesting case study last year :

- leader appointed prior to comprehensive evaluation

- turns out leader is partially incapable of recognising severity of lapses in execution; resulting in weak leadership

- leader's disability is identified at TIME-T

- however, after TIME-T, leader is not removed

- and, leader's leaders continue to complain incessantly about leader's disability

- and, at first I was very confused; but now I understand that leader's leaders are also partially incapable of recognising that the main issue is not the leader's disability, but that leader was appointed without a comprehensive evaluation

[Redacted]

Update : Yup ... productivity is shit because I have to stop working after a few hours to sleep in preparation for the day job. Can't even get one feature done.

0157h PSNS adjustments before bed.

Taxi prices are up today. No qualms spending money to fix my car. Might have fixed the wrong part though - switching the bearing made a negligible difference, and the dudes didn't have time to fix the mountings. What a waste.

In other news I have been thinking about how "meditation" is quantifiable as management of each section if the nervous system. In contemporary times we're very good at managing the PNS but not so busy with the PSNS - then again that's probably my biased view. One adjusts the PNS to wake up, the PSNS to sleep, the ENS in general, and the CNS for industry. Specific techniques for each are well documented.

There are no boring cars, only boring drivers.

I'm on a short business trip, to learn about colleagues in another city. A dude who joined us a week ago also volunteered, so he's getting clerical duties. We're here now, because another dude who was supposed to do this job ... u-turned on his offer - so we're moving preemptively in case it takes too long to find a replacement - whereas we did manage to find a replacement who might even join earlier than the lost dude. Dudes. Half of me admits that I'm floating caution on the breeze, and the other half figures this is my normal risk profile. Four trainees onboarded in as many months, to build a tech team around existing resources - still costs less than the time I had to step into a burning accelerator to consolidate a bunch of issues. Weird. Weirdness never goes away if you don't tolerate predictability.

Kiddo's sleeping, and I'm up with my tablet and a night light, staring at myself in the mirror which faces my bed head. [redacted] My colleagues want to know who I'm seeing - it's a joke bantered over Chinese dinner (lunch), that they can't find the photo of a girl I saw in June (everyone can see it, except you?).

It's going to be a long year. It might be more frigid than the last. I'll prepare myself to wake up for a morning meeting. Gotta be ready for anything. The year could be insane. I have another job to do besides this one. So many jobs to do. We're going to need more teams. I don't actually know if that's a solution. I bought the kid dinner, and he bought beer. Where do we go from here ... probably back to work. There is a lot of work that needs doing. A lot, a lot of work.

There's always a lot of work.

There'll always be a lot of work.

And so we won't be bored ... for now.

15jan

A middling week. More active rest required to maximise productive/high-APM minutes per week.

[Redacted]

Rest for a bit.

Awake.

Need to schedule time to exercise focal length variation in eyesight.

When it comes to hiring, experience is as overrated as certification. Both are past events, whereas hiring managers should be testing for present capabilities. Usually the main present skill that can be tested is conversation. Conversation should be tested in both textual and aural media, as capabilities can vary greatly across media for the same candidate. Beyond conversation, some jobs will require other tests.

OK - back at a desk. Chipping away at cleanups of the 2015 project.

But first a nap.

Career achievement : managed to keep myself in a toxic business relationship for about 4 years 4 months ... without blowing my top at anyone. Done and dusted today!

17 Jan

My notes say I'm not supposed to pivot my career to optimising for money until I'm past forty. I'm not sure if that's why I'm working for startups or if I just forgot. The boundaries are iffy. [Redacted] Haha. Well that's this morning's meditation - back to work.

No-code app development in ClickUp ... I made a HR system. OK lah. Took 1-2 days, but can replicate.

NTS Gotta read up on yield curve calculations later.

Hm. 1998. I managed to postpone studying firewalls for 24 years ... but now since there's work-related stuff, I'm going to start on firewalls, networking, directory services, and other Microsofty stuff.

I posted a little diagram about the #GreatResignation recently. In terms of economic cycles, Inequality has peaked in the previous phase, and Revolution peaks in the present ...  to be followed by Creativity, and Competition, then repeat ad nauseum. Employees and managers today can look at just one metric in beginning to deal with these trends. What is the company's net profit per staff? Subsequently, what did it cost shareholders? Finally divide the first number by the cost of any individual staff, for an interesting distribution across the population. Net profit per labour cost, can be sliced many ways.

"Play stupid games, win stupid prizes."- today's indoctrination for my trainees

Ready for the weekend : time to catch up on work with fewer distractions.
