Orang Melayu [ niskala ] itu mengakui bahawa kemelayuan berkembang selama berabad-abad, dari segi penyesuaian berterusan. Walau bagaimanapun, kesan imperialisme Tanah Melayu adalah ia memperluaskan* sifat kemusliman, daripada menundukkan sultan dalam perlembagaan Johor 1895 ... kepada menundukkan seluruh bangsa Melayu dalam perlembagaan persekutuan 1957.
Tiba-tiba, dengan agama terikat kepada bangsa, dan bangsa terikat kepada keistimewaan ekonomi**, dan ekonomi sentiasa menentukan politik di bumi, tiba-tiba ... agama menjadi asas politik di Tanah Melayu. Di Tanah Melayu, kemelayuan membeku, sebahagiannya, pada masa itu.
Sama ada ini kekal selama-lamanya, masih belum dapat ditentukan.

The mythical Malay person, acknowledges that Malayness evolved over centuries, in terms of continuous adaptation. The impact of imperial Malaya however, was that it extended* the trait of Muslimness, from subjecting the sultan in Johor's constitution of 1895 ... to subjecting the entire race of Malays in the federation's constitution of 1957.
Suddenly, with religion bound to race, and race bound to economic privileges**, and economics always determining politics on earth, suddenly ... religion became foundationally political in Malaya. Within Malaya, Malayness froze, partially, in that instant.
Whether this remains till eternity, remains undetermined.
