People often miss the P&L impact of mental health.

If something bad happens, and you are disappointed for 20-seconds, you have 1% the cost of someone who remains disappointed for 34 minutes.

Individually, P&Ls consist of experience lived as { time } x { quality of experience, per unit of time }. Of course, the weight of past events upon present experience is a function of memory latency and plasticity. That is a matter of mental health.

Many other examples can be given.

Factors of Production : Individual Scope

  • 1/Nutrition enables 2/exercise,
  • which calibrate 3/hormonal cascades,
  • which enable 4/sleep recovery,
  • which enables 5/a pleasured state of mind,
  • which enables 6/intelligence gathering, research, & development.

These may, but do not often, overlap with the chores we do to increase wealth and power. Now you have a design problem, i.e. how to get paid for factors 1-6.

Economic Value of Individual Experience

The mainstreaming of AI is excellent progress, about the point of view that personal experience is overrated.

In social psychology, we find that people who view themselves individually as distinct from others will tend to place a higher value on their own sensory experiences, wealth, and power in society. Whereas people who do not so clearly distinguish between themselves, and society in general, may not place such emphasis upon their individual person.

If you know anything about me, I'm a smart alec that thinks the latter is the most efficient mode of operations, but that most people are just too individually dumb to acquire that point of view. So I spend much of my life making fun of individualists because I think they are dumb fucks.
