Wealth and its Seekers

I sit at a cafe, working on a talent optimisation problem for my office. Nearby, some folks are musing about raising money for some ideas that they have for startups - it is the usual starry eyed, name-dropping banter. My own sense of wealth requires neither commercial success, nor popular appreciation - that has so far, allowed me to help people who seek the latter without being particularly attached to their objectives. I find all of this... amusing.

International Salary Benchmarking

So I figured I'd use this silly method:

A = (my net income, sans tax, but including statutory benefits that get locked up in a 5%-CAGR fund until I'm 60)

B = Malaysian GNI per capita, in PPP dollars

C = A / B; my post-tax remuneration, as multiple or fraction of GNI per capita

D = X-country GNI per capita, in PPP dollars

E = C * D; my post-tax remuneration target, for X-country

At the moment I'm in a non-technical role at work, so it's the mental equivalent of arranging chairs for a living... for fun I write software.

Perfectly Balanced...

... was this day.

At work:
- office space remodelled
- one product innovated
- three products financially modelled
- various parties counselled

After work:
- a run
- she cried, she laughed
- some R&D, and the first push to a new FOSS project

Unfortunately:
- it's almost 5am
- tomorrow can only get worse
