Generosity as the definition of maturity

I spend an extraordinary amount of time on social media these days, observing various actors. 

There seems to be a huge conflation between generosity and maturity. These are often conflated, perhaps because maturity is associated with the parental role, which facilitates the development of relatively helpless children. Maybe that is an acceptable paradigm. 

An alternative is to dissociate maturity from generosity, instead associating maturity with capability. This is not a popular view.
